James "JD" Dixon's sheriff service record and achievements.

My Record

Proven Leadership. Measurable Results.

When I had the privilege of serving as Sheriff of Chesterfield County, I understood that the people of this county expected more than promises. They expected leadership, accountability, service, and results.

My administration worked to strengthen criminal investigations, combat drugs and gang activity, protect victims of domestic violence, improve school safety, secure outside funding, and give our officers the resources they needed to serve our communities.

This is part of the record we built together.

By the Numbers

$1,541,216
Stolen Property Recovered

432
Cases Investigated

370
Arrests

377
Warrants Obtained

55
Search Warrants Obtained

7
Murders Solved

Criminal Investigations & Enforcement

During my administration, our investigators worked cases ranging from property crimes to some of the most serious crimes affecting Chesterfield County.

Our record included:

  • 432 cases investigated
  • 603 supplemental reports
  • 377 warrants obtained
  • 370 arrests
  • 55 search warrants obtained
  • 7 murders solved
  • 1 murder remained unsolved
  • 4 suicide investigations completed and closed
  • 7 arson cases turned over to SLED
  • $1,541,216 in stolen property recovered

These numbers represent more than statistics. Behind every case was a victim, a family, a neighborhood, or a community depending on its Sheriff's Office to do the job.

Fighting Drugs & Drug Trafficking

Drug activity doesn't stop at town limits, and neither should law enforcement's efforts to combat it.

My administration reinstated the Federal Drug Program in Chesterfield County to strengthen our ability to address drugs and drug trafficking.

Our narcotics enforcement record included:

  • 84 cases investigated
  • 183 warrants obtained
  • 53 arrests
  • 16 federal indictments
  • 59 firearms seized
  • 55 interviews conducted

I believed then, as I do now, that effective drug enforcement requires cooperation, strong investigations, and partnerships that extend beyond our county.

Specialized Officers Where They Were Needed

My administration successfully pursued state grant funding that allowed us to add three full-time positions for three years:

Traffic Enforcement Officer
Dedicated resources for traffic enforcement and roadway safety.

Gang Investigator
A dedicated investigator focused on gang activity and proactive intervention.

Domestic Violence Investigator
A dedicated investigator focused on domestic violence cases and the needs of victims.

These positions strengthened our ability to address specific problems without placing the full financial burden on Chesterfield County taxpayers.

Every Victim Matters.

Domestic violence cases deserve focused attention. Victims deserve to know that someone is listening, investigating, and advocating for them.

That was a priority during my administration, and it will be a priority again.

Making Our Schools Safer

Protecting our children must always be one of law enforcement's highest priorities.

As Sheriff, I led efforts to raise funds to purchase and install metal detectors in Chesterfield County high schools and several middle schools.

My administration also added additional School Resource Officers through state grant funding.

Those efforts were about being proactive rather than waiting for tragedy to force action.

Safe schools. Protected students. Peace of mind for parents.

Detention Center Record

Leadership doesn't stop at the front door of the Sheriff's Office. The Sheriff is also responsible for providing responsible oversight of detention operations.

Records from the period include:

1,586 total incarcerated
8 inmate hospital admissions
50 inmate emergency-room visits
0 inmate deaths

As Sheriff, I believed in being involved in the day-to-day operations of the agency, including the detention center. Accountability starts at the top.

Serving Our Towns

Our Sheriff's Office also provided law-enforcement services within communities across Chesterfield County.

Town of Jefferson
1,003 citations

Town of McBee
1,020 citations

Whether someone lived in one of our towns or in a rural part of the county, my philosophy was the same:

Every community matters. Every citizen deserves service.

Leadership Is More Than a Title

I'm proud of the numbers, but I'm even more proud of what they represent.

They represent stolen property returned to victims. Cases investigated. Dangerous drugs taken off our streets. Firearms seized during narcotics enforcement. Children protected at school. Domestic violence victims given dedicated attention. Additional officers placed where they were needed. And resources brought into Chesterfield County instead of simply asking local taxpayers to shoulder the entire burden.

I don't ask the citizens of Chesterfield County to judge me only by what I say I will do.

I ask you to look at what I've already done.

Experience You Know. Leadership You Trust.
